Custom Designed Vans

In the fashion world, vintage and customized anything gives the customer a special attachment to the product because they feel it's made especially for them, which it is. Customized shoes have become a huge trend this season, seen in stores from Gucci to Zara. 

For high school and college students, it has become a huge trend to get, or make, vans sneakers with customized designs based on the college/ University that the person is or will be going too! The supplies that is needed to make these shoes are vans, acrylic or sharpie markers, and beeswax or other shoe setting spray. 

Instead of buying customized shoes, I️ wanted to make my own (because how hard could drawing patterns on shoes be?) Since it was a nice weekend, I decided to have a couple of friends over and design some shoes! Since I’m going to Marist College next year, I designed my sneakers to have the colors of Marist-red and black.  It was sort of difficult at first for where to start because there was so much I could do, but once I was in the groove, they came out pretty good! Here’s the final product! 

Here are the 5 easy steps in creating your own vans:

1. Get basic white vans or converse (if you don’t have/want to get vans)

2. Get acrylic markers/sharpies/fabric marker (they all do the same thing basically). Along with markers, you’re going to want to get setting spray (I got the Mod Podge clear acrylic sealer) or beeswax for when you are finished, in order to avoid damage to the shoes. I bought my supplies off of amazon.

3. Once you have all of the supplies, you want to start by using pencil and sketching your designs, so you can erase if you make a mistake.  

4. After you are done sketching, use the markers to make your shoes colorful! 

5. After you are completely finished, either add the setting spray or rub the bar of beeswax on the shoe, and you are all done! :)

Disclaimer:  this looks very easy, but don’t be fooled. It takes A LOT of time and creativity to make your one of a kind Shoes!
